PROFILE
As
a former military wife I have lived in many parts of the world,
allowing me the opportunity to experience other cultures and
diversity in art first hand. It also permitted me to take
advantage of painting workshops and provided opportunities
to work with other artists. Primarily, I am self taught, however
in the mid nineties I returned to school where I worked towards
a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After achieving this degree
I went on to receive a degree in education. Because these
degrees are recent they put me in touch with the current thinking
in art, painting and education. As a newly emerging artist
my style is not yet determined although each year I see it
consolidating.
My
interests are highly divergent but my subjects are not. I
gravitate towards landscape and flowers using these as metaphors
for life experiences. When I play with the mind through words
and images I get a feeling of excitement. Morphing perspective
and size allows the viewer to question their own reality and
perhaps mine as well. Both teaching and art are passionate
experiences for me. I really cannot put one above the other.
That I have the opportunity to do both leaves me very fulfilled.
My students feel safe enough to take the risks necessary to
learn and to expose their creativity and I find that their
success pushes me even further.
